WESTERN ARMENIAN COURSES WITH SOSY
‘‘I have been living in Chicago for twenty years. I was born in Malatya, Turkey. We had not had Armenian school or a church in Anatolia as it is known.
In my life, I attempted a couple of times to learn Armenian by myself; however unreachable adequate resources and the lack of time prevented me learning or using my language. I was looking for new opportunities to restart Armenian. One day, I saw Sosy’s web page in Facebook. She was saying “it is not too late”. It was the last chance for me, so I should have tried in my sixties. I started to study with Sosy six months ago. Now, I am in hand of professional instructor.
Sosy’s teaching instructions and materials are extremely helpful. She can adopt the course material based on learner level and her positive attitude encourages learner. Fridays are now my Armenian days, after one our meeting with Sosy in Skype, I go over and study course documents. Reading and writing Armenian gives me emotional satisfaction as therapy.
I wish I should know her before’’.

“ My name is Mariano Hertimian, I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My roots are Armenian. My Grandparents were from Aintab. I went to an Armenian school, but my level of language wasn’t good. Now I am living in Puerto Madryn, Argentine Patagonia, and I need to improve my level because I want to teach some knowledge to my sons. Here we don’t have any Armenian institution.
I was looking for an online teacher, and I founded Sosy. She is a great professor, and I realize that day by day I’m improving a lot.
I’m very happy with her, she is very clear and she makes learn Armenian an easy task. She helps me a lot to preserve my Armenian language and identity”

“I grew up speaking Armenian at home. But as I got older - as I graduated from Armenian Saturday school, as I moved away for college and then graduate school, as my grandparents passed away - I found myself speaking Armenian less and less. Working with Sosy has been so helpful. After my lessons, I find myself calling my parents and talking to them - in Armenian - about the words I had forgotten or the phrases my grandparents used to say. My partner - who is also taking classes with Sosy - practices his Armenian vocabulary with me. This experience has been more than just refreshing my language skills. It’s been an intergenerational cultural and language lesson for my entire family.”

“I have been Sosy Mishoyan Dabbaghian’s grateful student for three years. So has my college-age son. as her student. She is top-notch, and I know this because I am a product of Armenian secondary schools in America and have studied Armenian under a number of teachers. Ms. Dabbaghian is hard-working, clear, goal-oriented, and pleasant. She mixes up her lesson plans – grammar, vocabulary, literature – and is agreeable to working on subjects that are of interest to the student. I recommend Ms. Dabbaghian without qualification.”

“In my house, every Thursday night is Armenian night with Sosy. As an Armenian living in rural America, I would never have an opportunity to speak Armenian without her. I am thankful to have an evening carved out for conversations, readings, translations, and grammar each week. I am also so thankful that Sosy, a highly-skilled doctoral candidate in linguistics, is offering this tutoring service in Western Armenian to those of us who want to stay on top of and develop further our language skills!”

She tailors our courses to my personal capacities and interests and has significantly helped me improve my use of Western Armenian. I am truly enjoying my courses with her and would recommend her classes for anyone interested in learning Western Armenian. ”

“Sosy initially helped me with a project where I needed guidance on Western Armenian names and their correct spellings, and her vast knowledge of the language and history of words motivated me to sign up for classes. The classes are always a treat, I learn so much, and she is extremely talented in what she does, and has such a passion for the intricacies of the Armenian language. I am able to apply so much of what I learn from her into my own work and recommend her to anyone—whether they be beginners or advanced!”

“I found the instruction informative and easy to understand. It helped me brush up on words and grammatical constructions I’d long forgotten. The texts we read are relevant to the world today, while reflecting on the cultural heritage that continues to inform our daily lives. Sosy is an outstanding and patient teacher who tailors the lessons to my needs, abilities, and goals. Taking these Western Armenian Online Courses is a pleasure and has even helped me reconnect with family members and friends as I share my experiences and learn about their experience with the Armenian language and its beauty. Highly recommended.”
